We are searching for a 3D character artist who wants to help fulfill the vision for our next game, currently in development. Specifically we are looking for someone to focus on creating game ready characters.

As a character artist at Arrowhead you will be involved in the process of taking both playable and non-playable characters and character assets from early stages of development, sometimes without concepts, through proofing, mock-up and to game ready levels.  

We offer a lot of freedom, autonomy and the opportunity to develop your skills in a direction you help decide. You will work together with a dedicated feature team consisting of animators, designers and other artists. You will also work closely with the studio's producer, art director, and game director to help make the games vision a reality.

Responsibilities

  • Create assets for both playable and non playable characters
  • Create game ready characters and assets
  • Hair creation
  • Collaborate and proof character designs with animators  
  • Continuous iteration on assets
  • Collaborate with feature team to test and feedback on designs and features
  • Participate in sprint meetings to set up realistic completion timelines

At Arrowhead each team member has an important influence on the game and is involved in the decision-making process. We offer a motivating and creative environment where small groups work independently and in cross-disciplinary feature teams. 

Qualifications and skills

  • Minimum of 5+ years experience from the games industry.
  • Involved in a full development cycle of a AAA-title. 
  • Proficient in modelling Software Zbrush.
  • Proficient Maya or Modo or equivalent modelling software.
  • Proficient in Substance Painter.
  • Proficient in Marvelous Designer. 
  • Basic experience of node based workflows for shaders and materials.
  • Proven experience or portfolio displaying assets of both organic and hard surfaces.
  • Portfolio displaying understanding of realistic proportions and anatomy.
  • Great understanding of character composition. 
  • Proficient in PBR Workflow.

Bonus qualifications

  • Skinning. 
  • Experience of working or managing with outsourcing pipelines.
  • Experience working with gibs, dismemberment and destruction.
  • Substance Designer.

More about you

To be a great fit with the studio one must understand the value of collaboration within games development, any given day there could be several people dependent on your work and vice versa. Being proactive and communicative are great qualities for this position! 

The ideal candidate is able to adapt to different circumstances and identify desired outcomes. Sometimes achieving high quality assets will be the number one priority, other times conveying intentional game experiences takes priority over game ready quality.

Practical information

Employment: Full-time, 40 hours per week on site at the studio.

Location: Stockholm
