Area Director - Meta Area
If you’re looking to make the best co-op games in the world, you’ve come to the right place. We're proud to have some of the best game makers and collaborators in the industry working with us. What's more, we're a fun bunch of game developers, who love to indulge in our passion for video games together. Our games are not for everyone. Are they for you?
We are now looking for an Area Director
The Meta Area focuses on the systems that frame, support, and deepen the player experience. This includes progression, systems design, narrative structures, UI and UX, and other meta layers that shape long term engagement and player value across the game.
As an Area Director, you will lead cross discipline work across multiple feature teams. You will work closely with an Area Producer and the Team Owners within your Area, providing high level vision, direction, and goals while ensuring teams are set up to deliver their best work.
This role is suited for someone with strong experience as a Senior or Expert in Game Design, Systems Design, Narrative Design, and or UI or UX design. Experience with monetization, backend systems, or board or roleplaying game design is a strong bonus.
What you'll do:
Uphold the vision for the Meta Area by providing a clear and widely understood road ahead. Inspire teams with vision, strategy, and long term goals that align with the overall game direction.
Guide the creative direction across the Area for both live updates and mid term arcs, ensuring features are engaging, meaningful, and aligned with Arrowhead’s way of making games.
Provide direction through briefs, goals, targets, and continuous follow up, ensuring execution stays aligned with vision, player value, and product goals.
Approve deliverables within the Area, ensuring acceptable quality, vision alignment, and player experience standards across all facets of development.
Continuously assess player value against cost and risk, driving informed decisions that strengthen gameplay, engagement, and long term sustainability.
Represent the Area towards the Product Team and stakeholders, advocating for the developers’ work, initiatives, and creative capital.
Collaborate closely with Team Owners and the Area Producer to establish goals, map capacity, manage dependencies, and ensure teams are structured to take responsibility for their work.
Set priorities and articulate clear product bets that balance vision, player impact, delivery cost, and data insights.
Maintain visibility of Area performance through measurable goals and data literacy, contributing to the Product Team’s KPI tracking and shared understanding of progress.
Build trust and foster a high performing Area by encouraging open communication, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Hold an overview of Area capacity, ensuring scope matches available functions and that dependencies are clearly mapped and managed.
Work with managers and producers to support hiring needs, performance feedback, and long term growth requirements for the Area.
Contribute as an active member of the Product Team, alongside the Game Director, Product Director, and Head of Production, helping shape the broader roadmap and long term development of the game.
What we're looking for:
Extensive experience within your discipline, with a strong track record of shipped titles and high quality work.
A broad game development competence profile, with strong understanding of systems, player motivation, and long term engagement.
Experience leading or guiding teams, with the ability to provide direction without needing to be the authoritative expert in every part of the work.
Strong communication skills, able to align teams, stakeholders, and the wider studio around a shared vision.
Strategic and structured thinking, balancing creative insight with practical delivery focus.
A collaborative mindset and passion for building motivated, autonomous, and high performing team
Bonus
Experience with monetization systems or live service frameworks.
Experience working closely with backend systems.
Experience designing complex systems inspired by board games or roleplaying games.
Familiarity with cross discipline collaboration in large scale projects.
